Student 1:The main character Cheryl, in the movie “Wild,” appears to be experiencing grief while struggling with heroin addiction. In her initial therapy session, her mood is characterized by sadness and emptiness due to the loss of her mother. While her affect is not explicitly described, it is likely congruent with her mood, displaying emotions consistent with her grief. Cheryl demonstrates some level of impulse control by seeking therapy and attempting to overcome her addiction. Her speech may vary, reflecting her emotional state and the topic of discussion. Her thoughts are likely preoccupied with her grief and addiction. It is possible that her perception may be influenced by these struggles, leading to distorted perceptions or negative interpretations of events. Cheryl may have difficulty dealing with the passage of time and might experience challenges in maintaining attention and focus. Her attitude in therapy may vary but may include guardedness, defensiveness, and occasional openness. It is evident, in the clip while she in the therapy session, that Cheryl is dealing with grief and finding pleasure in having sex with random men and doing heroin to avoid her mental state of grief and loss of her mother. Any counselor can have a conversation with a client, but appropriate knowledge, vocabulary, and skills can transform this “conversation” into a “mental status examination.

” According to the reading “Journaling of Counseling and Development”, experienced counselors attend to detail and subtlety in behavior, such as the level of affect accompanying the client’s thoughts or ideas, the significance of mannerisms and nonverbal behaviors, and the unspoken message associated with conversation. In my opinion, I felt that the therapist had some sarcasm to his responses towards Cheryl. He did not seem as comforting to me dealing with a client suffering her mother’s death.(Kayla).

Student 2:The client is between 27-35 years of age. She presented herself to the interview with good hygiene. Her clothes were worn out, but she was dressed adequately for the weather. Her face looked restless and pale. The client was very guarded and irritated. She made firm eye contact with an aggressive expression while answering questions. Her reply was very impulsive when answering, and she would sarcastically answer some questions. The client presented discomfort by having a tic movement in the right leg and chewing gum rapidly. The client demonstrated relatedness as the interview took place. The client was very irritated quickly when asked a question, and when she did answer some questions, she seemed expansive, not wanting to express her feelings. The client’s process thoughts are circumstantial and tangential. The client will answer some questions and close the topic. She also will make some remarks before answering some questions, distracting herself from the subject. The client was very guarded and defensive and walked out of the room because she felt the therapy was no help (Kilgus et al., 2015). (lilibell)
