To promote group cohesion, the best role-play techniques would be autodrama, monodrama, and chairing (Toseland & Rivas, 2017). It would have members role-play one of the people in the group. People may not always see that their behavior is harmful until they see it for themselves. This would probably work well for the group in this week’s video (Walden University, 2013). The members may get to see how the rest of the group perceives their behavior. Each of the members would have different perspectives of what they see in a person. They may also learn something about themselves by role-playing the other members of the group. Group cohesion would be promoted since each member would have their turn at seeing themselves being role-played by the rest of the group.

This would benefit groups that have substance use disorders since they may be rationalizing or denying their substance use. There are also other behaviors that go along with substance use disorders other than the use of substances such as self-loathing, guilt, and shame. People may need help seeing those behaviors in themselves.

In a group setting, I have found the “communication styles role-play” technique to be particularly impactful. This involves assigning different communication styles—such as assertive, passive, and aggressive—to participants and having them engage in conversations or scenarios. Members of the group take turns playing out these roles, providing an opportunity for them to experience and understand various communication approaches. This technique is especially beneficial for individuals who struggle with effective communication, whether it be due to assertiveness issues, passive tendencies, or overly aggressive behavior. By engaging in these role-plays, participants can gain insights into how different communication styles impact interactions and relationships. It allows them to identify their own preferred style, recognize the strengths and limitations of each approach, and practice more adaptive communication strategies in a safe and supportive environment  (Moudatsou at el., 2020)

This technique is particularly beneficial for individuals navigating workplace dynamics, interpersonal relationships, or those dealing with unresolved conflicts. For instance, a group of employees experiencing tension in a team could benefit from this role-play to enhance their communication skills and foster a more collaborative work environment. Similarly, individuals struggling with personal relationships can use this technique to explore healthier ways of expressing themselves and understanding others. Overall, the communication styles role-play technique provides a valuable platform for individuals to build self-awareness, improve interpersonal skills, and ultimately contribute to positive social interactions in various aspects of their lives (Moudatsou at el., 2020).

The “Common Core Standards” policy of the Maryland Public School System is the policy that I discovered as a result of my investigation. This policy, which specifies the objectives for student learning and accomplishment, is applicable to all students enrolled in public schools in the state of Maryland. The Common Core State Standards place an emphasis on the growth of students’ ability to think critically, to solve problems, and to communicate effectively.

Explain how the policy you found applies to social work.

This principle is relevant to the field of social work because it encourages social justice by ensuring that all students receive an education of the same high quality. In addition to this, it offers social workers a template that they may use to assist students who are in need of additional resources and support. Social workers are able to better cater their interventions and programs to the need of the kids when they make use of this policy.

Explain how the policy you found could be improved.

This policy should be enhanced by providing additional resources to schools and social workers so that they can better support pupils who are in need of assistance. This can involve providing additional financing for after-school programs, tutoring, and various other forms of support services. In addition, the policy might be improved by placing a greater emphasis on the significance of social justice and by providing educators and social workers with more in-depth training on the most effective ways to assist groups that are marginalized.

Describe in 1–2 sentences the policy you found in your research. 

The policy I found is focused on the Accelerated Placement Program, which provides students with the appropriate level of classes that they will excel in. This placement program will benefit children from not feeling overwhelmed by the educational lessons they are learning. This policy benefits students by retaining information more because it is at their level and in an environment that will help them grow as they move to other classes at their knowledge rate.  

Explain how the policy you found applies to social work.

This policy applies to social work because learning is stressful. When clients are in classes that are too advanced for them, they tend to retain nothing develop depression, test anxiety, and possible suicidal thoughts of not being good enough.  

Explain how the policy you found could be improved. 

I feel that this policy can benefit by providing more situational awareness in the curriculum for all education levels. In English, social studies, humanities, and related subjects, teaching word for word from the book is straightforward. Teaching word for word from the book will lead some kids not to excel in classes due to not understanding the terminology, having ADHD, and anxiety.
