2 Discussion Hinduism Discussion  Your first paragraph should be on what you found most interesting in the professor’s Intro to Hinduism lecture and in Mahony’s The Artful: An Intro to the Vedic Religious Imagination (Attached.) Possible foci include: origins of Hinduism, gods of the Vedas, The Hymn of Creation, core concepts and myths of the Upanishads, the status of imagination and myth-making in Vedic religious culture, the meaning of visionary sacred knowledge, the changes to the concepts of Maya, Brahman, and other mythic concepts between the Vedas & Upanishads, good and evil in Vedic religious culture, the goddess Rta in the Vedas, her function and etymology, and her parallels to the Egyptian Maat, Mahony’s concluding definition of the imaginative mythos of the Vedas, and the emergence from Vedic and Upanishadic culture of the Hindu trinity (or Trimurti consisting of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma and their consorts).

2. Your second paragraph should be on “Introduction” from Vanamali’s Shakti: Realm of the Divine Mother (Attached). Possible foci include the definition and history of Shaktism, the relation of Purusha-Prakriti to Shiva-Shakti to Atman-Brahman, Vanamali’s account of goddess-worship in the Neolithic, and how it compares to Armstrong or Agha-Jaffar from earlier in the course, and how it relates to her claims about Devi-worship in Hinduism, the mythology and psychology of relationship with the Great Mother in relation to delusion, deliverance, freedom, devotion, reconciliation, and bliss, on the Trimurti, and on Sri Aurobindo.
