End of life decisions are never an easy feat. it causes an added level of stress on both the individual who will no longer be with us and their next of kin who will have to deal with the fallout associated with everything. In case 2 where Geri is a relativity young mother without the added support of a husband to help carry the burden it really puts her and her son in a very difficult situation. For starters the time frame that was given to her may or may not be accurate seeing as how she could take a turn for the worse and significantly reduce her time here. However, that is not the most difficult part, when it comes to the question of spending as much time with loved ones the financial aspect really comes into play. Seeing as her son is in high school chances are he will not be able to financially be able to deal with the cost of hospital bills that are associated with this radical change in his life. So that would be the first step is to asses an amount of money to see if her stopping working is something that is feasible. Lets say best case scenario her health care options are able to cover the cost. Since if they are not this situation gets exponentially more complicated. I believe that the best choice is to allow her son to remain in the same school for the remainder of his time in high school. This is because his life is about to change drastically and he will need as much support and stability to be able to cope with this life changing event. When it comes to approaching the taboo subject of her no longer being around I feel that the best course of action to to be straight up with everything. So much is going to change in his near future and having her around in different counselings could help with the transition and since he is nearly an adult having that additional support while she is still with us could help the overall transition. Plus having established friends in his current school could make it slightly easier whereas if he would transfer schools right after he would not be in the best place to meet new people that were unfamiliar with what he had gone through recently. Since his established friends would be more attune to his mannerisms and be able to identify if there was a significant change in his behavior. Perhaps once he graduated he could look to moving closer to family for that added support but for the time being I believe that so much is going to change for him he needs as much consistency in his life at this particular juncture. Additionally, other factors would come into play such as how close is he with the aunt that lives so far away like how close is he to her or if she is just an aunt that he has only met a handful of times at family get togethers. These all play key factors and without meeting with both Geri and her son it would be difficult to see how both of then are handling the change.

Okay so Roger is paralyzed and can’t speak. His living will was last updated 25 years ago. He can answer by nodding his head only (Herron & Vincent, 2014). At this point, there are several decisions to be made such psychological and social aspects and then the ethical point of view. Family must be considered first and foremost along with Roger himself about his quality of life. Should the family decide they want Roger on support they must consider the possible long-term effects of his condition. Roger could become depressed, have internal organ problems, stress and other complications.

Every family and or culture have different ways of handling situations such as Rogers. Many may have as an unspoken that if a loved one can survive with assistance of machinery then so be it where other may be strictly against it and would want nature to take its course.

In my presentation of the situation and circumstances of Rogers condition I would sit down with the family and tell them he will not get any better but that the ultimate decision lies with them. When both my parents, 15 months apart, passed away the doctor came in both times and just told us the wasn’t any hope. The cancers were so aggressive they had about 3 to 6 months. I am glad the doctors didn’t try to sugarcoat the facts I feel it would be a violation of their ethics to not be totally honest with the patient. He did inform us of the various support groups within the hospital and our community (Hare & Nelson, 1992).
