This Guided Practice has two parts:

Part 1:

You will need to correctly format examples of books, journal articles, and website references.

Part 2:

Before beginning the Guided Practice, you will need to find three sources (a book, a journal article, and a website) related to your topic. Review the sources, and find a quote in each source that you would like to use in your paper. It is recommended that you also have the references written down before you begin.

In the Guided Practice, you will create a correct full reference and quote with an in-text citation. You will also include the quote for each source. For the quote, you should include a signal phrase with the Name (Date), the quote, and the page or paragraph numbers.

Signal Phrase and in-text citation example:

For the quote, you should include a signal phrase with the Name (Date), the quote, and the page or paragraph numbers. 

Example: Compton and Hoffman (2013) claim that wisdom is “a better predictor of life satisfaction than objective circumstances such as physical health” (p. 201).
