Assignment Instructions

• Using Zoom as your video creator software (see Zoom tips below), create a 10-minute video (maximum length is 10 minutes TOTAL) that answers the following questions:

Pick one of the career ladders presented in Chapter 1 of the textbook (Figure 1-4, Figure 1-5, Figure 1-6 or Figure 1-7). See the example from Walker (2020) below.

Create and present a PowerPoint slide with the image of the career ladder you chose included on it. Discuss three reasons why this career ladder is the one you are interested in pursuing.

2. A number of positions are listed on the career ladder you chose from Chapter 1. The one shown above has 10 positions in the ladder. Explain the KSAs for each of the positions listed on your chosen career ladder. For example, the above ladder has “Host” first, “Server Assistant” second, “Server” third and so on. Start with the lowest position on the ladder (the bottom) and move upwards to explain the KSAs for each position on the ladder. A good way to learn more about KSAs for each job are to find job postings on Indeed.com. KSAs include planning, problem solving, organization, effective communication and more.

3. Create and present your own customized 5 year career ladder (2022 to 2027) with at least 5 positions listed. Explain what KSAs you hope to get out of each position on your ladder and how long you would need to work at that position to learn the important KSAs. For example, you may wish to work as a “Host” at “Swiss Chalet, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada” for 6 months to gain the important KSAs.

Your recorded presentation must include:
