Assignment #3: Change Leader Interview (25 points)

• Conduct a Change Leader Interview: Now, it’s time to apply what you have learned! Begin to view the world through an organizational change lens by identifying and describing a challenge that faces an organization through these perspectives.
• Purpose: To provide first-hand accounts of valuable developmental ethical leadership experiences and personal reflection. To help apply the concepts that you’ve learned to a real context.
• Task: Arrange to interview a senior leader in or out of your organization (Your choice) for a scheduled time period. Then, conduct an in-depth interview about their valuable leadership development experiences. Prepare a written report of no more than 2-3 pages of your findings and discoveries and how those experiences relate to the reading materials. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to make a meaningful open and honest dialogue not only the assessment of the leader’s experiences but how those experiences can benefit you in the future.

Before you begin the interview, explain the nature of this class and the purpose of this interview. Then ask the following questions in a manner that you think will benefit the interview outcome and the learnings the most.

1. How would you define effective change leadership?
2. Do you think leadership develops with experience? Explain.
3. Are there one or two experiences that you back on as having been especially valuable in helping develop your own leadership style? Please briefly describe them.
4. What made these experiences so valuable?
5. Have your own views of leadership and organizational change evolved over time? Explain how.
6. Do you think leadership in your area/field differs or involves different pressures than other fields? Explain.
7. Do you ever reflect, after the fact, on how effective your behavior was in a particular situation? Is this ever a source of new or different insight? Please share your insights.
8. What do you feel is the single most important attribute for a change leader to possess?
9. How has globalization affected your leadership and perception of organizational change? Describe.
10. What are the issues most critical to address now regarding the future state of change leadership/leaders?
11. What do you admire the most/least in other leaders? Followers?
12. Is there any advice that you would give people early in their careers about change leadership?
13. How do you identify potential leaders in your organization?
