Background Information

Now that you have explored the “manage team” process, conflict resolution methods, and cultural dimensions, you will reflect upon how these concepts will relate to your experiences with conflict. You will discuss a conflict resolution method you’ve had experience with and share your perspective on its effectiveness in that specific situation. Additionally, you will evaluate alternative conflict resolution strategies that may have been more effective for that situation. Then, you will describe how a team’s composition, diversity, and cultural competencies may impact team conflict and, also, consider how these factors impacted your past conflict experience.

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Review the following resources, as needed:
    1. PMP Exam Prep, Chapter 9: Resources, “Develop Team”
    2. Agile Fundamentals: A Comprehensive Guide to Using an Agile Approach, Chapter 7: High Performing Teams and Chapter 8: Team Development
  3. Read the article Cultural Differences: Knowing the Nine Dimensions of Culture to Succeed in Project Management.
  4. Watch the following videos:

    2. How to Deal with Difficult People (4:36 min) and/or read the How to Deal with Difficult People Transcript (HTML)
    3. How to Resolve Conflict – Project Management (7:27 min) and/or read the How to Resolve Conflict – Project Management Transcript (HTML)
  5. Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following prompts:
    1. Review the methods that a PM can use to resolve a conflict.
    2. Select at least one method that you have had experience with.
    3. Describe the conflict, then explain why that particular conflict resolution method was used and if you believe it worked well to resolve the conflict. If it did not work well, describe an alternative method that may have better resolved the conflict and explain your reasoning.
    4. Additionally, describe how a team’s composition, specifically with respect to its diversity and possible cultural differences of team members, may impact conflict resolution. Did cultural competency, or lack thereof, impact the conflict you described? If so, how?
  6. In contrast to some of your prior courses, your initial post is due Day Three of the workshop, not Day Four.
  7. Your initial post should be a minimum of 200 words and at least one reference.
  8. Properly cite and reference one or more of the workshop’s sources in your original post.
  9. All references and citations should be in APA format.
